The CFD-5 Holster & Belt Combo has been the leading holster for both advanced and beginner Cowboy Fast Draw Competitors. The holster is a standard Mernickle 3-Ply construction, with a rawhide layer between the two outer layers of high-quality leather. The inner rawhide hardens allowing the leather holster to keep it’s factory form for years to come. The 2-1/2″ Mernickle High Performance Belt has a rough-out inner lining which helps keep the belt from slipping up and down. There is also a “Safeleg Deflector” on the toe of the holster, which guards against an injury from a wax bullet should a “boot-shot” occur. This “Low-Ride” Drop-Mexican Loop holster has a leather string leg tie-down.
According to Quick Cal, the CFD-5 is the best holster to begin Cowboy Fast Draw with. It is the holster he wears in the “Hit’em Fast” Ultimate Cowboy Fast Draw Instructional Video. There is no forward cant on this model. This type of holster is perfect the fundamentally correct Classical Circular Thumb-Cock Draw. Quick Cal refers to as the “circle draw”, with gun six-gun ending up in a firing position approximately 6″ above and in front of the holster. This type of draw yields the most consistent accuracy, or “cone of fire”.
With all of the different holster designs that Quick Cal has continuously used and experimented with, he has kept coming back to the CFD-5. Most recently it is the holster he used to win the 2022 Overall Men’s National Championship in Deadwood, SD

Sizing and Measuring Tips:
The best method to check what proper size belt to order is whatever your pant size is plus add 6 inches. This does not include modern elastic waist bands. So, if you wear size 36 pants, it should be a 42″ belt.
